What are the Safety Trainings
The Safety Trainings are intended to teach students and club members how to work inside of the Manufacturing Lab in a safe and danger free manner. The trainings are held in the basement of Palmer Engineering (PE 002) every other Wednesday from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. They are taught be club leader, manufacturing lab supervisors, and the manufacturing lab instructors. The first half of the trainings are lecture-based to give the students all of the need information and the second half are hands-on-based to give the students practice with the tools. Sign up for the trainings can be found at the bottom of this page.

Types of Safety Trainings
There are four types of safety trainings that go over everything from the basics of using hand tool, using the CNC machines, welding, manual mill and lathe, and many other machines. Each type of trainings will be offered twice a semester.
Lab 1: Hand and Power Tools
Lab 1 is a 2-hour safety training for the Manufacturing Lab. This safety training will go over the basic safety information needed to work inside of the manufacturing lab. This training is required for an individual to receive a safety badge and a "green" sticker on the Hand Tools and Power Tools sections on their badge.

Lab 2: Cutting Ops
Lab 2 is a 2-hour safety training for the Manufacturing Lab. This safety training will go over the basic safety information needed to use the Drill Press, Mill, Lathe, Vertical Bandsaw, and Horizontal Bandsaw. This training is required for an individual to receive a "yellow" sticker on the Drill Press, Mill/Lathe, and Bandsaw sections on their badge.
Lab 3: 3D Printer and CNC Plasma Cutter
Lab 3 is a 2-hour safety training for the Manufacturing Lab. This safety training will go over the basic safety information needed to use the Plasma Cutter and 3D printers. This training will also go over the programs Torchamte and Solidworks. This training is required for an individual to receive a "green" sticker on the 3D printer section on their badge.
Lab 4: Introduction to Welding
Lab 4 is a 2-hour safety training for the Manufacturing Lab. This safety training will go over the basic safety information needed to use the Mig Welder. This training is required for an individual to receive a "yellow" sticker on the Welding section on their badge.
ASME Workshops
ASME will hold three workshops throughout the Fall 2019 semester. Each workshop will build off of the information presented during the safety trainings. These workshops are meant to provide students and club members an opportunity to practice using the machines and tools inside of the manufacturing lab. The workshops are designed to teach attendees how to efficiently use the machines in the shop. These workshops are held on the last Saturday of every month in PE 001 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The sign-up for each workshop can be found at the bottom of this page. If you have any questions regarding the workshops, please email Chris Geiser at cgeiser@unr.edu.

Types of Workshops
There are three workshops during the Fall 2019 semester. Each workshop will highlight a different aspect of the manufacturing lab and the different machine in the shop. The workshops will be taught be club leaders, manufacturing lab supervisors, and manufacturing lab instructors. All of the supplies will be provided. Each workshop has safety requirements. If you do not have the needed requirements before the date of the workshop you can not attend the event. You can receive the needed safety requirements either during the bi-weekly safety trainings or you can schedule a one-on-one safety training through Brian Nagy.
Workshop 1: CNC Plasma Cut Belt Buckle (September 28th, 2019)
This workshop will show students how to use the CNC plasma cutter by creating a custom made belt buckle. The workshop will walk students through using Fusion 360 to design the belt buckle, how to use the CNC plasma cutter, how to clean up the plasma cut stock using a grinder, and how to adhere the belt buckle with two-part epoxy. All of the needed material will be provided by ASME and the manufacturing lab. This workshop will be held in the mechanical engineering manufacturing lab (PE 001) on September 28th, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Please review the needed requirements for the workshop.

- Green sticker on Hand Tools
- Green sticker on Power Tools
- Yellow stick on CNC
Workshops 2: Welding Pencil Holder (October 26th, 2019)
This workshop will show students how to use the vertical band saw and MIG welder to create a custom made pencil holder. The workshop will walk students through using the vertical band saw to cut stock, the mill to clean up cut edges, the MIG welder, and the grinder to clean welds. All needed materials will be provided by ASME and the manufacturing lab. The workshop will be held in the mechanical engineering manufacturing lab (PE 001) on October 26th, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Workshop 3: CNC Milled Chess Piece (November 30th, 2019)
This workshop will show students how to use the manual and CNC mill. The workshop will walk students through using Fusion 360 to design a chess piece, the horizontal band saw to cut stock, the mill to clean up the stock, and the CNC mill. All of the materials will be provided by ASME and the manufacturing lab. The workshop will be help in the mechanical engineering manufacturing lab (PE 001) on November 30th, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
