The Rocketry Society was founded in Fall of 2014 by Tyler Miles, Jeremy Fries, Justin Patridge, Nick Breshears, and Misael Reyes under the name UNR Rocketry Team. The club was the third aerospace organization on campus and the second aerospace competition team. In the first year, the team focused on fundraising and gaining knowledge in an attempt to compete in the basic category of the IREC 2015 competition.
For the 2017-2018 season, the team designed a rocket for the Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition in Las Cruces, New Mexico. We are constructing a rocket to carry an 8.8 lb payload to 10,000 ft AGL. Our Structures Team is focusing on a expandable fairing design, for improved payload deployment. The Propulsion team is developing a hybrid motor to be used with the rocket, to allow for easier transportation to competition.
